Week 3 Response!

This chapter in the book is entitled "French lesson" because Jesse meets a guy by the name of Hong and only them two speak French beside the other people Jesse met while waiting for his flight to Dong Ha. The lesson that Jesse learns from Hong is and everyone else is that the vietnamese look at Americans different and Americans look at Vietnamese people different. "in America they say that you vitenamese do not value life." (pg.83jesse) in vitenam their people don't fear death because they believe life is very value and when it's time to go and it's their time, they accept it nd so Jesse just thinks and accepts the life he live and what he's going through.

  1. I think chapter four was titled the "french Lesson"because the language that was spoken in this chapter was mostly french. Jesse used french to communicate with Hong Ha.A lesson learned in this chapter by hong ha was about like racism in the United States."In the north country, the children are told in school that the people of color in the united states live in a separate country.they are told that white Americans are rich.."(p81 vea).Hong found at that racism exist. I think the big lesson that Jesse learned in this chapter is death is nothing to be afraid of.

  2. This chapter is given the title "french Lessons" because Jesse meets Hong Trac who speaks french just as he does. Jesse learns a little bit about Hong Trac and where he's from and Hong Trac learns about Jesse. Jesse learns that Hong Trac fears death just as he does, Jesse believes he is going to die and so does Hong Trac. They both share many of the same interests and views upon life and war.Jesse also learns that life is a state of mind and not a reality with his visoions of the past and present.
